PILATES FOR CHILDREN

The Sedentary Problem

The percentage of overweight and obese kids and teens has more than doubled over the past 30 years. Although many factors contribute to this epidemic, one key issue is that children are becoming more sedentary. In other words, they're sitting around a lot more than they used to.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, the average child is watching about 3 hours of television a day - and if you include all screen activity combined (TV, videos and DVDs, computer time outside of schoolwork and video games) - that jumps to over 5 ½ hours.

One of the best ways to get kids to be more active is to limit the amount of time they spend in sedentary activities, especially watching TV or playing video games.

The Pilates Body Studio, through our affiliations with Polestar Pilates, is training our instructors on how to communicate the Pilates method to children in a manner that will get the kids hooked on Pilates and on movement.

Claire will be starting a series of fun and innovative kid’s classes at the Studio, on Monday's at 4pm for primary school children, and a separate class for teenagers on Wednesday's at 4:00pm.

If you are interested in your children attending, please let us know.

Also Marion Botherway and Maree will be taking Pilates for Kids into the Ponsonby Primary and Bayfield Primary Schools.
